What’s the Problem?
The software bug can cause the rearview camera to:
- Freeze unexpectedly
- Delay displaying the image
- Show a blank screen
Ford says this “reduces the driver’s view behind the vehicle, increasing crash risk.” So far, only one minor crash (with no injuries) has been reported.
How to Get the Issue Resolved at No Cost
Ford offers two ways to fix this:
- Over-the-Air (OTA) Software Update: Some vehicles will receive an automatic update.
- Dealership Visit: Owners can schedule a free software update at any authorized Ford dealer.
What Should You Do?
- Check if your vehicle is recalled – visit the NHTSA recall site and enter your VIN.
- Contact Ford Customer Service for assistance.
- Schedule a dealership visit if your vehicle requires an in-person update.
Notification Timeline:
- First alert letters will be sent by June 16, 2025.
- A follow-up letter with repair details will arrive later in the year.
Why Is This Happening Again?
- April 2025: Ford recalled 289,000 vehicles for a hardware replacement.
- 2023: NHTSA fined Ford $165 million for slow action on a similar 2020 recall.
Ford is working to resolve the issue quickly this time.
Final Thoughts: Stay Safe & Check Your Vehicle
